Between work, preparing for the new baby, being a dad, more work, work work work, and writing Batman fanfiction (a hero's got to get her kicks somewhere) Victor hasn't had much time for anything else.

She's never thrown a proper baby shower, so she's really glad for April's help. Though, it's not quite a proper baby shower.

Her apartment is draped with color, forget pastel blues and pinks and yellows that look like a marshmallow Peep's intestines. Brilliant, bright turquoise, green that looks like it was snatched off of a jungle plant, gold baubles hanging from the light fixtures.

Forgot to mention, the lights are off and the guests are crouching down behind the couch, huddled in the kitchen, shuffled behind lamps and curtains.

"Have no idea what that is... but right now, it is just fun enough watching for Kryptonian strength."

"Can I get you anything to drink?" she asks, as Anya decides to take a big fistful of her papa's hair. Victor carefully disentangles her fingers, says, "Gentle hands, darling." She kisses her fingers. "Gentle hands." And then she sets her girl down.

"Just water, thanks. Never underestimate good old H2O."

"How is everything going Jack?"

She bounds away to grab a glass of water, bringing it back promptly enough to hear the question.

"Seems to be going well," he says with a glance downward towards Junior. "The gene therapy's going off without a hitch, so I'm pretty sure there won't be any rejection."

"I am glad to hear that. We do have a few gifts for you today, as is tradition of a baby shower."

Even though she knows it, it's always a relief to hear that the pregnancy is going well. It loosens that knot of worry she has in her chest, that she always has when she's dealing with matters of biology and not mechanics (though they're the same thing, truly, on the deepest of levels, there are so many things on a cellular level that she can't control or repair).

"That we do!" She already has a diaper genie, a crib, the bottles, all the things you need for an infant. So, other than the diapers, wipes, and refill bags, (and a few cute onesies), the presents are mostly for Jack.

"Thought the presents are mostly supposed to go to the parents, not the surrogate," Jack says with a chuckle. He's read up a little on 21st century customs, though surrogacy wasn't something they often covered.

"You are the one who is going through all the trouble, so we don't mind spoiling you a little."

"Exactly," she says, all cheery-like, having long gotten over the emotional angst of not being able to carry the baby herself. (Mostly.)

"If you insist. Bring on the presents!"

"Jonathan?"

The little boy looks up. "Pressies?" He picks up a small box, and carries it over to Jack. Lifting it up to him.

Victor grabs a few boxes off of the table, herself. One is suspiciously bottle-shaped.

Jack grins down at the little boy and takes the gift from him. "Why, thank you, little man."

The small box was wrapped clumsily, it looks like Jonathan himself was responsible for it. Inside is a small craft, that also looks like was designed by Jonathan. It might be a space ship... but it also could be a submarine. Or an airplane. Really hard to tell.

"That's so great!" Victor crows, beaming at the boy. "You're an awesome artist."

As for the bottle-shaped one, it's made of thick blue glass and it's from the Delta system, the finest on-budget scotch-like substance she could get her hands on. For post-baby, of course.

As for the other boxes... James picked them out. Naughty boardgames, and fancy underthings. Which is why Victor's about the same shade as a ripening strawberry, and why she mumbles to Jack, "The others are for opening later."

"Thank you," Jack tells Jonathan with a smile. "You did a great job."

He's pleased to see the gifted beverage, although he groans a little when he opens it. "It's going to be torture waiting to be able to drink this."

And, of course, he grins brilliantly at the last comment, a mischievous gleam in his eye. "Oh really?"

April's own gift, also in a small box, is a package of fine cigars. Another thing that Jack will have to wait until post-baby.

"Only the best for you, Captain." Well, only the best that'll still allow her enough money for her kids to attend college one day.

"Oh, you know," Victor says, casually. "Young eyes, and all."

Two gifts he'll have to wait on! And he still has four months to go. "You're killing me." But he is very appreciative, despite the mock grumbling. And he feels fortunate to have such good friends.

"So, any cravings or weird dreams yet?"

There it is, that slight pang of jealousy. Not that Jack's getting attention, no, she loves that. But that she's not the one to have the cravings, the weird dreams. She does have weird dreams but it's usually just the one dream, over and over with slight variations, and not weird so much as highly disturbing. Still, she listens attentively with a grin.

"Oh, I always have weird dreams," Jack says with a laugh. Many of them are not family-appropriate, so he doesn't mention them with young ears around. "I have been craving marshmallows lately though."

April can relate to always having weird dreams, her psychic voices communicate with her the best... while she sleeps.

"Marshmellows, huh?"
