A woman stopped me today on my way to class. She was at the honors retreat with me last week. We got to talking, and it ends up that she thought that I was staff there, and a junior because I seemed at ease and my poetry was so mature. I guess she wasn't there when I got voted "Craziest Camper." Don't know why. I'm sane-ish. Well, actually, that was the award I was expecting.

All of the characters in my books go nutso. Then they get difficult to work with and I can't write for them anymore. Gah! Stupid written stupid gosh darn it.

I'm in love. I really, really am. And it's remarkable, to be able to feel that degree of...

I think I need to get a mattress for the project-house. Because I think I'm going to be crashing there a lot and he might do the same.

I'm worried, but I'm starting to get my appetite back a little bit, so I won't have to make myself eat anymore. Worried. He promised, though. He promised he promisedhepromisedhepromised. Everything's going to be okay.

Spider smiles and perches on a nearby wall. "I'm glad things are going okay, sweets. Though that last thing is puzzling. Is anything the matter?"

"Daniel's alternate asked th' Nexus 'bout ways t' kill alternates."

"Sure is. I love it."

"Ummmm...boyfriend's alt showed up askin' the best way t' kill alts."

"Victor!" Spider looks shocked and is. "Is he okay? Are you okay? Can I do something?" He catches himself fretting and stops it immediately. "Um."

"Promised everythin'll be okay," she said, almost stubbornly. "So I b'lieve him."

"Okay. Good. If something happens, don't hesitate to call in my help, yeah? I've got some tricks up my sleeve." he smiles lopsidedly.

"'Kay." She looked the way she said she looked. She was drawn and worried.

"Want a hug?"

"Oh. That's foolish."

"T' be worried or t' ask that?"

"Better 'n anythin'."

"Sure."

"The second."

"'Kay. 'Cause his alt really is scary."

"And his alt really is going to have serious trouble if they try something."

"Yeah." Losing him would be completely devastating, and she hoped to God and Fairness that it wouldn't happen. That maybe the alt was joking.

"That too. Better 'n fallin'."

"It'll be fine. If the alt tries anything, he'll wish he hadn't."

"Not literally. Sometimes. I think love falls on people. Smash."

But there was still that 'if', and it tied her stomach in knots. She didn't know a little word could rip so badly. "Yeah."

"Wouldn't want to."

"Everything will be fine, Victor. It's okay."

Me neither. Too nice a feeling.

"Much."

"It'll be okay," she repeated.

"Right."

She tried for a smile.

She smiled, hugging her carefully.
