Between work, preparing for the new baby, being a dad, more work, work work work, and writing Batman fanfiction (a hero's got to get her kicks somewhere) Victor hasn't had much time for anything else.

She's never thrown a proper baby shower, so she's really glad for April's help. Though, it's not quite a proper baby shower.

Her apartment is draped with color, forget pastel blues and pinks and yellows that look like a marshmallow Peep's intestines. Brilliant, bright turquoise, green that looks like it was snatched off of a jungle plant, gold baubles hanging from the light fixtures.

Forgot to mention, the lights are off and the guests are crouching down behind the couch, huddled in the kitchen, shuffled behind lamps and curtains.

Jack's made himself fairly at home since he agreed to go through with the surrogacy, so he doesn't think anything of walking up to the front door and using his key to get in. He's five months along now, and it shows, so he tries not to stay out in public too much. It's ridiculous to him that he has to, but Victor and Cole (and other assorted party members) don't need this sort of attention drawn to them, and apparently this century lacks men who can get pregnant.

Not that they're incredibly common when he comes from, but it's not unheard of, anyway.

The lights being off catches his attention, as does the feeling of people lying in wait. Instincts honed by years on the run from the Time Agency are pinging him to pay attention, to look out for a trap, because this could be it.

April herself has only had one surprise party before, one arranged by the Justice League. She knows how hard it can be with someone with heightened instincts (or psychic abilities) to be surprised. And she just hopes this is a pleasant one.

Victor mouths 'one,' 'two,' 'three' and then they chorus, "Surprise," the way they do when people have surprise parties. Victor's coached them not to be super loud about it (especially the little girls), because the girls like to scream whenever they're given any provocation.

Well, at least it isn't assassins. Jack smiles automatically before his emotions can catch up, absorbing the feeling in the room from the others. "Surprise?" he repeats, looking around at the decorations.

"It is a surprise baby shower." April chuckles lightly, after coming out of her hiding spot during the chorus. And she goes over to hug him in welcome.

She sneaks over, herself, flipping the lightswitch, wrapping her arms around Jack. "We wanted to throw you a party."

Jack is definitely up for hugs! It's not too awkward just yet, although he can feel a little foot jab into his ribs for a moment. "Settle down, Junior, it's just a party."

"Junior huh? We went with acorn." April chuckles, placing her hand on his stomach.

Anya and Athena crowd around giving Jack's legs the biggest hugs their little arms can muster. "Let him breathe," Victor says, with a laugh, scooping Anya up into her arms, and Athena follows.

There's one more little kick towards April's hand, and Jack never quite gets used to the feeling. "Last time my partner called it the Tadpole, so at least Junior is more biologically correct," he says with a grin, to distract himself from the strange yet familiar sensation.

"Active little one..." April chuckles. It seems so long ago when she was pregnant. Now her son, toddling around the living room, is nearly two.

"Ain't that the truth," Vic says, pressing her palm lightly to Jack's belly before she ushers him in and offers him a seat.

Jack takes the offered seat gladly. His center of gravity has started to shift a bit, and it's always more comfortable to just relax and chill out. "Just you wait, your kid'll be running around like a Tehgronian lizard-monkey before you know it."

"Have no idea what that is... but right now, it is just fun enough watching for Kryptonian strength."

"Can I get you anything to drink?" she asks, as Anya decides to take a big fistful of her papa's hair. Victor carefully disentangles her fingers, says, "Gentle hands, darling." She kisses her fingers. "Gentle hands." And then she sets her girl down.

"Just water, thanks. Never underestimate good old H2O."

"How is everything going Jack?"

She bounds away to grab a glass of water, bringing it back promptly enough to hear the question.

"Seems to be going well," he says with a glance downward towards Junior. "The gene therapy's going off without a hitch, so I'm pretty sure there won't be any rejection."

"I am glad to hear that. We do have a few gifts for you today, as is tradition of a baby shower."

Even though she knows it, it's always a relief to hear that the pregnancy is going well. It loosens that knot of worry she has in her chest, that she always has when she's dealing with matters of biology and not mechanics (though they're the same thing, truly, on the deepest of levels, there are so many things on a cellular level that she can't control or repair).

"That we do!" She already has a diaper genie, a crib, the bottles, all the things you need for an infant. So, other than the diapers, wipes, and refill bags, (and a few cute onesies), the presents are mostly for Jack.

"Thought the presents are mostly supposed to go to the parents, not the surrogate," Jack says with a chuckle. He's read up a little on 21st century customs, though surrogacy wasn't something they often covered.

"You are the one who is going through all the trouble, so we don't mind spoiling you a little."

"Exactly," she says, all cheery-like, having long gotten over the emotional angst of not being able to carry the baby herself. (Mostly.)

"If you insist. Bring on the presents!"
